Carter-Vickers MIA as Scotland squad assemble at Glasgow Airport

Celtic defender's absence from squad snaps and social media posts sparks concern

Carter-Vickers key part of Scotland's World Cup qualifying hopes

Concern is growing among Scotland fans after Cameron Carter-Vickers was a notable absentee from the squad's official photographs at Glasgow Airport on Sunday.

The Celtic defender has been a key part of Steve Clarke's side in recent months, starting all three of Scotland's World Cup qualifiers in March.

However, the 24-year-old was nowhere to be seen as the squad gathered at Glasgow Airport ahead of their flight to Dublin for Tuesday's friendly against the Republic of Ireland.

The Scottish FA has not yet commented on Carter-Vickers' absence, but it is understood that the player is not injured.

One possibility is that Carter-Vickers has been given permission to miss the Ireland friendly due to personal reasons.

However, it is also possible that the player has picked up a knock in training which is not serious enough to rule him out of the squad but which could prevent him from featuring against Ireland.

Carter-Vickers' absence will be a blow to Scotland, who are already without Kieran Tierney, Andy Robertson and Nathan Patterson for the Ireland friendly.

Clarke will be hoping that Carter-Vickers is able to join up with the squad in time for the World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Austria later this month.
