Coach Franklin expects better from Windies bowlers

West Indies coach Phil Simmons has called for improvement from his bowlers after they failed to defend a total of 311 against England in the first One-Day International (ODI) at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Tuesday.

After the match, Simmons said he was disappointed with the performance of his bowlers. "Our bowlers didn't bowl well enough to defend the total," said Simmons. "We gave them too many easy balls to hit, and they took advantage."

Simmons expects better from his bowlers in the remaining matches of the series. "We need to be more disciplined with our bowling," he said. "We need to bowl more yorkers and bouncers, and we need to get the ball in the right areas."

The Windies bowlers were put under pressure by the English batsmen, who scored at a brisk rate throughout the innings. Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow put on a century partnership for the first wicket, and Joe Root and Eoin Morgan also made significant contributions.

The Windies bowlers were unable to make any inroads into the English batting line-up, and they eventually conceded 311 runs. The Windies batsmen were then bowled out for 289 in reply.

The Windies will have to improve their bowling performance if they want to win the series. The second ODI will be played at the same venue on Thursday.
