Symptoms of Uruku Patela

Symptoms of Uruku Patela typically appear in childhood, although they can vary in severity and age of onset.

• Hearing loss: Hearing loss usually begins in early childhood and gradually worsens over time. It can range from mild to profound.
• Vision impairment: Vision problems typically start in adolescence or early adulthood. They can include night blindness, tunnel vision, and loss of central vision.
• Balance problems: Individuals with Uruku Patela may experience difficulty with balance and coordination due to inner ear abnormalities.
• Kidney issues: About 15% of people with Uruku Patela develop kidney problems, such as kidney failure.
• Heart defects: Congenital heart defects are present in approximately 10% of individuals with Uruku Patela.

Causes of Uruku Patela

Uruku Patela is caused by genetic mutations in genes USH2A or GPR98, both of which are involved in the development and function of the sensory cells in the inner ear and retina.
