Sabah Aib: A Moroccan Philanthropist Who Made a Difference

Early Life and Education

Born into a wealthy family in Fez, Morocco, in 1927, Sabah Aïb received a privileged education. She attended French schools in Morocco before moving to France to study law at the Sorbonne University in Paris. After completing her studies, she returned to Morocco and began her career as a lawyer.

Commitment to Social Justice

Aïb was deeply committed to social justice and equality. In the 1950s, she joined the Moroccan Association for the Defense of Human Rights (AMDH), where she worked tirelessly to defend the rights of the oppressed, including political prisoners and victims of poverty. Her work with the AMDH brought her into contact with many of Morocco's leading intellectuals and activists, including Mehdi Ben Barka, a prominent opposition leader who was later assassinated by the Moroccan government.

A Leader in the Women's Movement

In addition to her work as a human rights activist, Aïb was also a leader in the Moroccan women's movement. She was a founding member of the Union of Moroccan Women (UFM), which worked to promote women's rights and education. In 1960, the UFM was dissolved by the government, and Aïb was briefly imprisoned for her involvement in the organization.

Philanthropic Work

After being released from prison, Aïb dedicated herself to philanthropic work. She established several charitable organizations, including the Sabah Aïb Foundation, which provided financial assistance to poor families and supported educational programs for girls. She also worked to improve healthcare in Morocco by establishing a number of medical clinics and hospitals.

Death and Legacy

Sabah Aïb died in 2007 at the age of 80. She is remembered as one of Morocco's most influential philanthropists and human rights activists. Her work made a significant contribution to the development of Morocco and continues to inspire people around the world.
