Early Life and Education

Timothy James Walz was born on April 6, 1964, in Mankato, Minnesota. raised in a working-class family, he attended Mankato State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in social studies education and a master's degree in education from the University of South Dakota.
After graduation, Walz worked as a high school social studies teacher and football coach. He also served for 24 years in the Army National Guard, rising to the rank of command sergeant major.
Political Career
from the classroom to the statehouse
Walz's political career began in 2006 when he was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives. He served three terms in the House before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018.
In Congress, Walz quickly became a rising star in the Democratic Party. He served on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, and he was a vocal advocate for progressive causes such as healthcare, education, and climate change.
