Toronto Raptors Waive Point Guard Immanuel Quickley

Quickley Fell Out of Favor with Raptors

The Toronto Raptors have waived point guard Immanuel Quickley, the team announced today. The 23-year-old guard was acquired by the Raptors in a trade with the New York Knicks in February 2023.

Quickley fell out of favor with the Raptors after averaging just 5.4 points per game in 20 games with the team. He also struggled defensively, allowing opponents to shoot 47.6% from the field when he was on the court.

Quickley May Sign With Brooklyn Nets

There is speculation that Quickley may sign with the Brooklyn Nets, who have been in need of a point guard since Kyrie Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks last month. The Nets are reportedly interested in signing Quickley to a one-year deal.

Quickley would join a Nets team that is led by Kevin Durant and Ben Simmons. The Nets are currently 27-13 this season and are third in the Eastern Conference.

It is unclear whether Quickley will start for the Nets if he signs with the team. Seth Curry is currently the Nets' starting point guard, but he has been struggling this season. Quickley could potentially start at point guard for the Nets if Curry continues to struggle.

Quickley Had a Promising Start to His Career

Quickley was a standout player at the University of Kentucky before being drafted by the New York Knicks in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft.

He averaged 11.3 points and 3.5 assists per game in his rookie season with the Knicks. He also shot 38.9% from three-point range.

However, Quickley's production declined in his second season with the Knicks. He averaged just 7.5 points and 2.4 assists per game and shot 34.4% from three-point range.

Quickley Could Be a Valuable Addition to the Nets

Despite his struggles with the Raptors, Quickley could still be a valuable addition to the Nets.

He is a young player with a lot of potential. He is also a good shooter and passer.

If Quickley can regain his form from his rookie season, he could be a major contributor for the Nets.
